Doctor. Humanitarian. Teacher. Entrepreneur. Dr Angeline Anning Yong’s passions have earned her many titles and accolades in her 15 years of medical practice. The common thread running through her pursuits, however, has been an unwavering commitment to her patients and craft.

Prior to leaving for private practice, Dr Yong was the only dermatologist accredited to perform both Mohs Micrographic Surgery and hair transplantation in the National Skin Centre, as well as the first Singaporean dermatologist possessing the required qualifications to join the American College of Mohs Surgery. Adding to her international exposure were full fellowships at prestigious institutions in the United States, United Kingdom and Korea where she was trained in her clinical interests of Cosmetic and Procedural Dermatology, Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Hair Transplantation Surgery and Skin Cancers. Dr Yong also holds a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University.

Dr Yong’s commitment to the field of dermatology extends to nurturing the next generation of aspiring dermatologists at our medical schools. She previously served on the committee of the National University of Singapore Graduate Diploma in Family Practice Dermatology, and is also a Dermatological Society of Singapore-National Skin Centre Certificate of Competency Instructor in both the field of botulinum toxin and filler injections. Dr Yong is also a regular contributor to medical journals, a much sought-after speaker at conferences and a key opinion leader for various aesthetic dermatology products and laser devices.

Apart from her clinical and academic work, Dr Yong is committed to giving back to society. Over the years, she has embarked on several medical humanitarian mission trips and was awarded the Healthcare Humanity Award by the late President S.R. Nathan for her work in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Now, after more than a decade of public service at the National Skin Centre, Dr Yong brings her experience and knowledge to bear in her own private practice to champion healthy skin and hair – the most visible reflection of a person’s health and wellbeing – for everyone.

When not tending to her patients, Dr Yong is kept busy by her 2 young children and is also enthusiastic about using her artistic eye to help restore heritage buildings to their former glory. An avid global traveller, she is passionate about exploring different cultures and may be found diving with whale sharks in the Indian Ocean or camping under the stars in the Gobi Desert or Himalayas.

Dr Angeline Yong is a Singapore-based dermatologist with over 15 years in medical practice. A humanitarian, educator and entrepreneur, Dr Yong’s long list of accolades, awards, and business successes are a testament to her commitment to her field, patients, and passions. After more than a decade of public service at the National Skin Centre (NSC), Dr Yong is now focusing on treatments, procedures and services which champion healthy skin, hair, nails, and a better quality of life for people of all ages.

Dr Yong graduated with top honours from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2005, and was awarded two gold medals – the Eli-Lily Gold Medal and the Class of 1975 book prize. She was also part of the inaugural batch which was selected to enter the highly competitive Seamless Dermatological Residency Programme in 2008. After completing her specialist training as a dermatologist at NSC, she was awarded her Certificate of Specialist Accreditation in Dermatology by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in 2013.

Finding time even during her specialist training to help the less fortunate, she received the Healthcare Humanity Award from the late President S.R. Nathan in 2011 in recognition for her overseas humanitarian work, which included helping flood victims in Bangladesh and post-civil war refugees in Sri Lanka. She was also awarded the National Skin Centre Service Champion Award (Gold) in 2012 for her exemplary patient care.

Never one to rest on her laurels, Dr Yong pursued not just one but multiple fellowships during her tenure at the NSC. In 2014, she was awarded a Health Manpower Development Programme Scholarship to pursue a year-long fellowship at the world-renowned St John’s Institute of Dermatology (London) where she was trained in Mohs Microscopic Surgery and cutaneous reconstruction alongside other dermatologic surgery and laser procedures. This was followed by a fellowship at the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital (New York), where Dr Yong underwent further sub-specialty training in Hair Transplantation, Cosmetic and Procedural Dermatology. Then in 2016, Dr Yong completed a third fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Cosmetic and Procedural Dermatology at the Seoul National University Hospital and Yonsei Severance Hospital (Korea), to broaden her expertise in treating Asian skin. On top of her full fellowships, she has also completed multiple visiting observerships with global leaders in the USA, Europe, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand.

Beyond her numerous professional memberships in international and local dermatology societies such as the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatological Surgery, British Society of Dermatological Surgery, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, American Society of Mohs Surgery and Dermatological Society Singapore, Dr Yong was also granted membership to the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) in 2018. She was the first Singaporean dermatologist with the requisite fellowship training to join ACMS, the leading American body that regulates fellowship-trained Mohs Micrographic surgeons.

Due to her extensive and varied training as a physician and surgeon, Dr Yong is one of the few doctors in Singapore with dual qualifications as a member of both the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). Having completed fellowships in both the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA), she is also registered to practise medicine by the UK’s General Medical Council (GMC), the Singapore Medical Council (SMC), and licensed by the USA’s Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), making her one of only a handful of doctors in Singapore registered to practice medicine across three continents.

Due to her expertise in both the medical treatment of hair loss and surgical restoration, Dr Yong was tasked to set up and lead the hair transplantation service at NSC. She has in-depth experience and all-round expertise in dermatological surgery – from laser and hair transplant surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery, to other cold steel, scalpel techniques – and was the only dermatologist dual-accredited to perform both Mohs Micrographic Surgery and hair transplantation in the National Skin Centre prior to leaving for private practice. On top of that, her position as a key member of the dermatologic surgery and laser division in NSC coupled with her comprehensive global training in both Asian and Caucasian skin types, has allowed her to develop her skills in using various laser modalities to treat various skin types.

Dr Yong is also an avid educator. She was the first Singaporean doctor to complete a Postgraduate Certification in Medical Education with the University of Cambridge, and has sat on the NSC medical education committee, been a clinical lecturer at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and served on the committee for the NUS graduate diploma in family practice dermatology. Dr Yong is also the NSC-Dermatological Society Singapore (DSS) Certificate of Competency (COC) trainer in both the domains of botulinum toxins and filler injections. She has previously sat on the admissions committee for National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and was also an examiner for the Final M.B.B.S examination for the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Dr Yong also holds a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University.

Being rigorously involved in academia, Dr Yong also regularly contributes to and reviews international journals. Having published over 15 papers and four book chapters, she has also had numerous local and international poster presentations and has been an invited speaker at both local and overseas dermatology conferences. Her areas of research include anti-ageing medicine, skin cancer management and imaging, hair disorders, dermatological surgery and lasers. She is also a key opinion leader for various aesthetic dermatology products and laser devices.

After having spent more than 15 years in public service, Dr Yong believes in the practice of complete top-to-toe skin care and comprehensive cosmetic and surgical dermatology. She does not believe in a fixed standard of beauty; instead she uses her trained artistic eye and scientific mind to offer her patients natural-looking enhancements that stay true to their own individuality and lifestyle needs.
